I Think When I Read That Sweet Story

Vocal Solo

Arrangement by Craig Petrie

Solo arrangement of the familiar song from the Primary songbook.  Low voice range G-Aflat, high voice range B-Eflat.  This arrangement includes original lyrics for a new verse and original music and lyrics to a chorus part that is sung after the 2nd and 4th verses.  The new lyrics broaden the message of the song somewhat; instead of just a song about how nice it would have been to be with the Savior long ago, it is a song that helps us commit to follow the Savior in our day.  An interlude part includes part of the melody from the song "Come, Follow Me."

I think when I read that sweet story of old,
When Jesus was here among men,
How he called little children like lambs to his fold,
I should like to have been with him then.

I wish that his hands had been placed on my head,
That his arms had been thrown around me,
That I might have seen his kind look when he said,
"Let the little ones come unto me."

Yet though I was not with him then,
I know I can follow today!
I think when I read that sweet story again,
That Jesus is not far away,
And so I will follow today.

The joy of the sinner when brought to the light,
The face of the leper made clean,
The tears of the blind man when given his sight,
What wondrous things I might have seen!

Yet still to his footstool in prayer I may go,
And ask for a share in his love;
And if I thus earnestly seek him below,
I shall see him and hear him above.

And though I was not with him then,
I know I can follow today!
I think when I read that sweet story again,
That Jesus is not far away,
And so I will follow today.
